Elevations
Who is governing the shadows of these little star-shaped walls? They seem panicked, unsure of which direction to go, not even knowing who or what to stop. What use are they if not to chase after the relief, straddle faults and climb hills? But not everything is necessarily an illusion in these Elevations. At the edge of reality, on the border of dreams, the lines wander the canvas and wait for their story to be told. They play between upstream and downstream, between source and summit, thinking only of irrigating the surface. As in all of her artworks, Jane gives the gaze free rein: you can see uncharted meridians, seaweed at the break of day or the laugh lines of earth’s crust. Elevations is indeed aptly named: these artworks tell of the freedom of space and movement. G.H
